Ashes Whispering

Join us for the opening of Ashes Whispering, a group exhibition that presents the work of sixteen Latine artists and designers carrying stories of transformation, radical tenderness, intuitive memory, and debris-born cosmologies.

 Saturday, July 5

 2–6 PM

 NYLAAT House, Building #18,
Nolan Park, Governors Island, NY 10004

Ashes Whispering arrived as an invitation, extended by Ezequiel Taveras and the NYLAAT team, echoing the curator’s ongoing reflections on a recent visit to Bogotá and the synergy of its art scene. The journey made possible by the generosity of @curaduriasrfl, @maricelavelez @tatirais @kitambo.co @juanbetancurth_  @oriental_background_actress_ @antonceballos @enbajada_ and @johnsonyjeisson, that gently guided Abreu back into a personal inquiry on Neo-Grotesque Latine aesthetics and speculative design.

What began quietly, as aesthetic investigations often do, found its second chapter on Muisca soil, at Organizmo, and gave voice through the flame of María Leguízamo’s Brillo en Tercera Persona, a murmuring wave of familial conversation that tuned the atmosphere for the sacred spaces we long to inhabit when the world folds inward.

Embajada presents 'damas, damas, damas, damas' an exhibition bringing together five female artists of Puerto Rican descent working across interdisciplinary approaches to painting and drawing.

'damas, damas, damas, damas' brings together five female artists of Puerto Rican descent working across interdisciplinary approaches to painting and drawing. Expressive figures weave throughout abstracted forms and symbols addressing identity and objectifying personal histories while exploring new possibilities in contemporary pictorial language.
